How It's Made: The Art of 3D Printing
At LUNQO, we merge modern technology with timeless design. We use advanced 3D printing to create our sculptural lighting and decor. But what does that actually mean for you, and why do we do it? Let’s take a look behind the scenes of our Malta studio.
The Process
1. Digital Crafting
Every piece starts as a 3D digital blueprint. We design with mathematical precision to ensure perfect proportions and beautiful light diffusion.
2. Layer by Layer
The printer heats up eco-friendly material and carefully deposits it layer by micro-layer, slowly building the object from the bottom up.
3. Internal Structure
Inside the walls, a hidden honeycomb infill is printed. This complex geometry makes the lamps incredibly strong while remaining lightweight.
4. Hand-Finished
Once printed, each item is removed, inspected, and assembled by hand before it is safely packaged and shipped to your home.
Why We Love 3D Printing
Eco-Friendly PLA
We primarily use PLA (Polylactic Acid), a sustainable bioplastic derived from renewable resources like corn starch. It’s durable for your home, but much kinder to our planet than traditional oil-based plastics.
Mesmerizing Light
The micro-layers created during the 3D printing process aren't flaws — they are features! These tiny ridges act as micro-lenses, diffusing the LED light perfectly to create a soft, warm, and glare-free atmosphere.
Zero Waste Production
Unlike traditional manufacturing that cuts material away, 3D printing only uses the exact amount of material needed to build the product. We make items to order, meaning absolutely zero overproduction.
Endless Customization
Because no molds are required, we can adapt, scale, and redesign our products instantly. Want a lamp slightly taller or in a bespoke color? With 3D printing, your imagination is the only limit.
Curious to know more?
Will the lamp melt from the heat of the bulb?
Absolutely not! We design our lamps to be used exclusively with high-quality, low-heat LED bulbs. LEDs produce very little heat, making them 100% safe to use with our eco-friendly PLA material. Please ensure you only use the recommended LED bulbs.
How long does it take to print one lamp?
Quality takes time. Depending on the size and complexity of the design, a single LUNQO lamp can take anywhere from 15 to 40 hours of continuous printing. We don't rush the process; precision ensures the perfect finish.
Are the 3D printed layer lines visible?
Yes, and we love them! If you look closely, you will see very fine, delicate horizontal lines (each layer is often only 0.2mm thin). This is the unique signature of the 3D printing craft. It gives the product a beautiful, tactile, matte texture that reflects light softly.
How do I clean my LUNQO pieces?
Cleaning is simple. Use a soft, dry cloth or a feather duster for regular dusting. If needed, you can use a slightly damp cloth with cold water. Avoid harsh chemicals, hot water, or putting them in a dishwasher.
